Duty, Honor, and the Work Ahead

Issue date: November 8, 2026

A Note from the Editors

November asks Americans to remember who keeps the peace. Dated November 8, 2026, this issue comes ahead of the Marine Corps birthday on Tuesday, November 10, and Veterans Day on Wednesday, November 11. Our Gadsden Flag is an independent brand from Gadsden, South Carolina, not a government or military organization. The facts below belong to the sources named at the end of this issue. The judgments are ours.

1. The Marine Corps’ 251st Birthday, and the Nation’s Debt to Veterans

THE FACTS

The official Commandant of the Marine Corps page publishes a “251st USMC Birthday Message” dated 10 November 2026 from Commandant Gen. Eric M. Smith, also naming Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps Sgt. Maj. Carlos A. Ruiz. Gen. Smith writes that “40,000 Marines are forward deployed and stationed around the world to secure liberty and to strike when our adversaries test our resolve,” and closes, “Happy 251st Birthday, Marines!”

The Marine Corps History Division at Marine Corps University publishes the Continental Congress resolution of November 10, 1775, which resolved “That two Battalions of marines be raised.”

Arlington National Cemetery announced on October 8, 2026, that the 73rd annual National Veterans Day Observance will take place on Wednesday, November 11, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. in the Memorial Amphitheater. The event is free and open to the public. Arlington said wreath-laying attendance at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier will be limited this year to official participants. A livestream is posted at http://www.dvidshub.net/webcast/38645. The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs states that the ceremony commences at 11:00 a.m. with that wreath laying and continues in the amphitheater, and that the 2026 Veterans Day poster “recognizes America’s 250th anniversary” by combining “the modern American flag with an early American flag.”

OUR VIEW

These days are not a platform for score-settling. They are a chance to thank Marines and every veteran who carried the burden of a free country.

2. The Senate Returns to a Permitting Vote, Not a Finished Law

THE FACTS

The official U.S. Senate Daily Press page for Thursday, November 5, 2026, states that the Senate returns for business on Monday, November 9, at 3:00 p.m.; will resume consideration of the motion to proceed to H.R. 2347, the Survivor Justice Tax Prevention Act, described there as the legislative vehicle for the permitting reform bill; and will vote at approximately 5:30 p.m. on cloture on that motion to proceed.

On November 7, 2026, the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources said Sens. Mike Lee (R-Utah), Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.), and Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.) released a substitute amendment to the Bipartisan American Affordability and Jobs Act of 2026 (BAAJA). Chairman Lee said the permitting system “takes too long, costs too much, and leaves too much uncertainty,” and that the country has a chance to “get America building again.”

OUR VIEW

The posted Monday vote is cloture on a motion to proceed, not final passage of BAAJA. The country has a right to expect the Senate to show up and decide.

3. CENTCOM Forms a Tampa Staff to Help Close Iran’s Land Routes

THE FACTS

In a public release dated November 7, 2026, U.S. Central Command said Adm. Brad Cooper directed formation of Task Force Iron Gate, an internal staff of approximately 20 civilian and military personnel based in Tampa, Florida. CENTCOM said the team will coordinate with other U.S. government agencies to help prevent the movement of advanced weapons systems, dual-use technologies, sanctioned materials, and illegal revenue streams across Iran’s land borders and the Caspian Sea.

Cooper said the task force “reinforces the success of our ironclad blockade against Iran at sea” and will “further constrain Iran’s ability to finance terrorism, rebuild weapons factories, and replenish their military.” CENTCOM also stated that “America’s naval blockade has prevented Iran from exporting more than $25 billion in crude oil.” That figure is CENTCOM’s claim in the release.

OUR VIEW

As announced, this is a small coordination staff, not a newly declared ground war. The mission is still serious: denying an adversary the tools to harm free people.

The Flag We Fly

Our Gadsden Flag is its own flag and brand. It is not the yellow 1775 Gadsden flag, not a reproduction of it. The original, credited to Christopher Gadsden of South Carolina, carried a coiled rattlesnake on a yellow field and the warning “Don’t Tread On Me.” That warning inspired us. Our design is red, white, and blue: a stars-and-stripes “OG” snake wrapped around a globe showing the Western Hemisphere, with the words “United in Freedom” and “Defended by Patriots.” As we recount in Our Story, two cofounders created it in Gadsden, South Carolina.
